SELL YOUR HOME SAFELY! Let Your REALTOR Show the Home. Don't Open Door

I just told this same thing to a mnew listing client. It can never be said enough though. I leave a bunch of business cards with them and if they have a strange knock wanting to see the house they can hand one out and say call my agent and make an appointment.

All ready to sell your home? Sell Your Home Safely! Let Your Realtor Show Your Home - Don't Open the Door! The goal here is to SELL the house. The most important aspect is for everyone to be safe throughout the sales process.


Why say Sell Your Home Safely! Let Your Realtor Show Your Home - Don't Open the Door? The simple answer is that when a sign goes up in your yard, you have no way to check-out the people who might knock on your door. There are people posing as couples who are really thieves and "bad guys".  You may see them as "normal" and be inclined to let them in. Don't!


In some parts of the country, the "bad guy" plan operates via distraction. A seemingly pleasant couple or couple with children arrive. The Homeowner, anxious to sell, may be inclined to let them inside. Could be the perfect sale - right? WRONG!!!


It could be the worst idea. The "bad guy" method is to distract the Homeowner while the other member of the "bad guy" team checks out the Master Bathroom medicine cabinet for prescription drugs. The child needs the bathroom or the "husband" wants to ask a question about the basement or the deck and the "wife" needs the bathroom. Lots of permutations of the "bad guy" distraction technique.

Don't let your enthusiasm about selling put you in a difficult position. Sell Your Home Safely! Let Your Realtor Show Your Home - Don't Open the Door. Your REALTOR makes safety checks when scheduling an appointment to show your home. Same goes for another REALTOR who wants to bring a Client. The safety meansures are in place before they go out with a potential Buyer!

DO NOT LET UNSCHEDULED DOOR KNOCKERS INTO YOUR HOME AND DO NOT DISCUSS ANYTHING WITH THEM!! Give them three sentences only through a closed door. "Thanks for your interest. Could you please call the office on the sign if you want to see the house. Hope to see you back soon."   NOTHING ELSE.

Sell Your Home Safely! Let Your Realtor Show YourHome - Don't Open the Door.  Follow your REALTOR's guidance and YOU WILL BE SAFE and YOUR SALE WILL BE SUCCESSFUL.
Yes, let's say it yet one more time: never let anyone you don't know or expect to come in when they knock on the door after the FOR SALE sign goes up. NEVER.
